Talk It Out

In addition to writing, Jim has another vocation that probably won’t surprise readers of Moon Over Humboldt: he helps groups and communities who disagree about politics and morality talk things over in ways that can reduce fear and anger and increase trust and respect.

Like the wise and compassionate uncle (“TIO” means “uncle” in Spanish) you might wish for when a partisan conflict disrupts your holiday dinner, Jim guides people in how to “Talk it Out” in ways that enable them to stay connected while expressing their deepest concerns and hopes for their community and country.

Here’s a guest column about Jim’s work, and an op-ed by him about how Braver Angels (for which he is a certified moderator) is helping bring peace to the culture wars dividing school communities. Reach out to him here if you’d like to know more.
